A Walk Through York, England

This was, by far, my husbands favorite place in England.  Yes, he even liked it better than London.  But I have to tell you why - he is a History Major and LOVES History.  There is a lot of history here, not that London doesn't have history too, but York has a lot of old history that is still present today and a lot of that history has to do with the Romans.

Do yourself a favor when you are in York.  Catch the free walking tour at 10:15 A.M. at the Exhibition Square in front of the art gallery.  You will not be disappointed, I promise!  It will eventually take you along the city walls which we loved.

Again looking toward the York Minster, but this time in a crowded shopping area - I loved the atmosphere of this area ... and all the treats on sale

This area is the Ramble the Shambles where the butchers had their shops.  There are still hooks outside of some of the stores where they would hang their meat.  The streets are so narrow here and we loved it!  There is also a slight slope to this street so when it rained all the people's 'waste' and left-over meat that they threw outside would wash away down the street to the bottom where it created a nice little pile.  By nice little pile, I mean a huge, disgusting pile of bacteria, filth, and sickness.
