Riga, Latvia

These are just some shots we took while walking around Riga trying to find the TI (tourist information center).  I love the little side streets, the rod iron on the windows and the door to the Cathedral.  I love all the details that are everywhere.

This is the Town Hall and its square.  Doesn't it remind you of It's a Small World?  It's also known as the House of Blackheads

The Freedom Monument is pictured on the right.  In her hands she holds three stars, symbolising the three reigions of Latvia:  Courland (Kurzeme), Livland (Vidzeme), Lettgallen (Latgale).  These three regions have pretty much been home to the same people which are ... the German nobility in the countryside and merchants in the towns, Latvian serfs and farmers in the countryside and free Latvians in towns.

St. Peter's church

The left is the inside of St. Peter's Church and the right is a picture of the inside of St. Mary's Dome Cathedral.  We went to an organ concert in St. Mary's and it was A-mazing!

St. Mary's Dome Cathedral

The square with St. Mary's Dome Cathedral to the right

Where we had lunch - it is just on the left

How cute is this little street?

Nativity Cathedral

Vermanes Park

Some of the beautiful things they sold here in Riga

These buildings (#17, 19, & 21) are the Three Brothers buildings.  They were built in the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries.  They are the oldest stone houses in Riga.

The back of the Lady of our Sorrows Church

Look at all those church spires!!

We had to take this picture for our son who LOVES pointing out yellow cranes.  This is just a few of the cranes we saw, they went on for miles.
