Ludwigsburg's Pumpkin Festival

At the Ludwigsburg Palace they hold an annual Pumpkin Festival that runs for almost 2 months - from the beginning of September to the beginning of November.  A couple of weeks ago they carved out these huge pumpkins, put them in water, climbed inside the pumpkins and raced them against one another.  It looked awesome but it was on a Sunday and we couldn't make it.  Maybe next year or sometime!!  Each year they have a different theme.  This years theme is DINOSAURS!

Aren't these amazing?!  The kids LOVED it!  We didn't tell them ahead of time what the theme was so we could see their excited facial expressions.  It was priceless, they were shocked!

They had over 400 different kinds of pumpkins from all over the world on display.  There are some pretty odd pumpkins, and all different colors too!

It was totally raining while we were there.  When it started raining really hard we took a break and got some pumpkin food.  We really wanted some pumpkin hot chocolate to warm us up but they didn't have any, I guess I'll have to experiment and make my own or something ... or just make this ONE

We did however get some pumpkin soup, pasta filled with meat and pumpkin, and topped with roasted pumpkin seeds.  It was seriously delicious!  Miles was REALLY hesitant to  taste it but it well worth it.  Good thing the kids didn't like it much because I could have eaten the entire thing!

Finally, we ran into this!  Rapunzels Tower!
We had no idea this was here and we were so surprised.  Behind the tower is a whole garden filled with fairy tale themed exhibits such as this one (ex: Little Red Riding Hood).  We actually didn't know that until the next day but since we missed the English tour of the Palace and planned on coming back anyway we'll have to catch this again as well.
