Before you get started ... park in the parking garage Tronchetto, it's pretty secure and cheap.
(Go HERE for more information about it)
Then take the 'people mover' over to Venice. The 'people mover' is 1 Euro per person.
To get the most of your 'boat' experience take Boat #1 to Piazza San Marco, where St. Marc's Basilica and Doge's Palace are located. This boat stops at almost every stop but it has great scenery and tons of history to see. Below are some of the sites you see.

At the San Marco Piazze, The Campanile. This is the tower we climbed ... well, took the lift to the top actually. It's 8 Euro per person (all our kids were FREE, they are 10 and under).
The View(s) (top and bottom)
While we were up on the top of the tower it turned 3 o'clock (or 15:00) and the bells began to ring! It was SO LOUD!! I was seriously scared to death for my children, but they got a kick out of it and were laughing so hard. My infant even slept through the whole thing.
The Piazzo of San Marco. St. Marc's Basilica on the left and on the right The Campanile, with the clock tower behind us.
typical Venice
Don't forget to take a gondola ride ... if you get 80 Euro for an hour you did GREAT!
