Walking down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh

The cultural capital of Scotland -- Edinburgh
At the top of the hill is the Grand Castle of Edinburgh.  At the bottom of the hill is the Palace of Holyrioodhouse.  In-between these two, is the Royal Mile, where we spent most of our time.

If you are interested in touring the Grand Castle, check it out here"

A city view off a side street from the Royal Mile.  There is a roman column on the right and the Wallace memorial on the left (I can't remember what was in the center ... sorry)

Neo-Gothic Church built in 1844 called the Tolbooth Church - I love the flags in the lower left corner

A view of the Royal Mile on top of some stairs we climbed.  We just so happened to be in Edinburgh during it's famous (which I didn't know was famous) International Festival.  It was seriously crowded!!  And the hotel rooms were seriously expensive!  Oh well, it made it rather exciting with all the street shows we got to watch and experience.

In the distance, and on the right, is St. Giles' Cathedral.  This is where John Knox has a statue and his gravesite is located outside in a parking lot stall.  The National Covenant is here as well.  The Covenant was signed by Scots who didn't want to compromise their religion for the kings.  It was signed with their blood and almost all who signed the National Covenant were martyred.

In this little museum - The Police Information Center is this little gem.  William Burke did some naughty things (theft and what-not) so guess what the judge said should be his punishment?!  That his body be used by the school of anatomy for surgeons.  William Burke's skin was removed from his body and made into this business card case.  Hmmm ... Fascinating or Disturbing.

Just a cool building along our journey

Ending at the bottom of the hill at the Palace of Holyiroodhouse
